Brazil: Federal government identifies Greek-registered tanker: Suspected oil spill

Brazilian Federal Government:

Identified Greek tankers suspected of spilling stranded oil.

On November 4th, we announced a notice of a spill of crude oil to a Greek-owned tanker owner company and announced that they had requested information.

Crude oil problem:

Since September 2019, crude oil has drifted over a total length of 2,000 km, centering on the northeast coast of Brazil.

Causes enormous damage to Brazil’s environment, tourism and fisheries (see article October 30, 2019)

Now we have entered a new phase.

The amount of damage is estimated to reach 2 billion real (54 billion yen, 1 real = about 27 yen), even though it is under calculation.

Federal Police / Navy: Cause Investigation

The investigation of the federal police and the navy (identification of crude oil spill sources) has already been completed.

Greek flag tankers

Loading crude oil in Venezuela and sailing over the Atlantic off the coast of northeastern Brazil,

The company said that it had transshipped to other crude oil carriers at Tanjung Buras Port in Malaysia via Cape of Good Hope Africa.

Crude oil spills occurred around the end of July.

According to federal police information

Spilled crude oil was found 700 km from the coast of Paraiba State in northeastern Brazil.

The spillage is reported to be 18,000 barrels (1.8% of tanker capacity of 1.1 million barrels).
