Philippines (CAMPI): 2019 first half new car sales: 1.8% increase year on year

According to the announcement, new car sales in the first half of 2019 (Jan-June) increased by 1.8% year on year to 195,424.

It set a record high for six consecutive years from 2012 to 2017, with 473,943 units in 2017.

Tax reform: excise tax on cars

In January 2018, the government implemented tax reform (see article on March 27, 2018) for the first time in 20 years.

In addition to the excise tax on cars being increased,

Government rate hikes and rising gasoline prices

In 2018, it decreased by 15.3% to 401,624 units.
