Li battery: Osaka Pref Univ. Heat generation mechanism of electrode material – with transmission electron microscope
– Step forward in developing next-generation lithium ion batteries –
The direct observation with a transmission electron microscope revealed that ‘decomposition reaction of electrolyte is involved’ in the exothermic reaction of the positive electrode composite for electrolyte-based lithium battery.
Furthermore, it turned out that the chemical mechanism of deoxygenation due to atomization of active material and organic solvent is involved in the mechanism of heat generation.
The result of this research contributes greatly to practical application of next-generation lithium ion battery.
The result of this research was published on “Scientific Reports” online version, Japan time on October 23, 2018.
