JAXA: Successful transmission in X band (7GHz band): GaN solid-state power amplifier (SSPA)

JAXA: Successful transmission in X band (7GHz band): GaN solid-state power amplifier (SSPA)

JAXA:

Currently, Misasa Fuka, a ground station for space exploration, is developing a large 54m parabolic antenna.

Transmission of X-band command signal:

From 19:30 to 22:30 on October 5th

To the asteroid explorer “Hayabusa2”,
X band (7GHz band) command signal transmission,
Was successful.

X charged wave: 7GHz band

We will continue to carry out trial operations using Hayabusa2, and we plan to start full-scale operation from April 2021.

Solid Power Amplifier (SSPA):

Developed SSPA as a high-power amplifier that amplifies X-band command signals.

Introduced to the ground station for Misasa deep space exploration.

It is the world’s first * solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) for the deep space 7GHz band.

NEC: Joint development

JAXA has developed a solid-state power amplifier using domestically produced GaN (gallium nitride) with the cooperation of NEC.

30kW class: X-SSPA

30kW class X-SSPA (X-band Solid State Power Amplifier)

It has a built-in GaN device.

Multi-stage synthesis of 384 PAs (Power Amplifier, 125W output per one).

The final 30kW output is obtained.

Even if multiple pieces break down
It is possible to continue transmission operation,
Sustainability and stability of command operation for the spacecraft
Will improve.
