Battery Technology Related Patent Application Ranking: EPO-IEA Battery Study

On September 22, 2020, the number of world patent applications related to battery technology was announced.

In 2018, Japan accounted for more than one-third of the total.

EPO-IEA Battery Study:

Of the top 10 companies in the world for battery technology patent applicants, 7 are based in Japan.

It was clearly posted in the joint research study “EPO-IEA Battery Study” on battery technology announced by EPO-IEA.

2005-2018:

The number of patent applications for battery and power storage technology worldwide from 2005 to 2018 is

4 times the average of all technical fields,
With an average annual growth rate of 14%
It is said that it continues to grow significantly.
2018:

The number of new international patents related to electricity storage has reached more than 7,000.

The EPO-IEA is a testament to “this is because improving storage capacity plays an important role in clean energy technology.”

Ranking by company:

Panasonic (4787 cases), the second largest in the world,
World’s 4th largest Toyota Motor Corporation (2564 cases),
Hitachi, Ltd. (1208), the 6th largest in the world,
Sony (1096), the 7th largest in the world,
The 8th largest NEC in the world (800 cases),
Nissan Motor, the 9th largest in the world (778 cases),
This is followed by Toshiba (730 cases), which is the 10th largest in the world.

Samsung Electronics is number one in the world
LG Electronics is third in the world
5th in the world is Robert Bosch,

Looking at the top 25 companies, there are 13 companies based in Japan.
