Solid state battery: AIST / Tokyo Institute of Technology: Producing an ideal all solid state battery – Surface X-ray diffraction
Establish guidelines for reducing interfacial resistance and open the way for practical application
The research group made an ideal all solid state battery using LiCoO2 epitaxial thin film [Terminology 4], utilizing thin film fabrication and vacuum technology (Fig. 1).
Point
We discovered that regular atomic arrangement at the interface formed by solid electrolyte and electrode is the key to the formation of low resistance interface
Precise analysis of interface structure by surface X-ray diffraction [Terminology 1]
An important step toward practical application by giving guidelines for development of all solid state batteries
Surface X-ray diffraction:
A method of determining the atomic arrangement at the surface or interface by measuring the intensity distribution of X rays scattered by irradiating the surface or the interface with X rays.
It is characterized by being able to measure the sample nondestructively.
