California (DMV): Automated driving of delivery vehicles-Start of regulation maintenance

San Francisco

April 26, 2019

California Land Transport Authority (DMV):

On April 12th, we announced the “regulation proposal on the use of automatic driving test driving of light-duty trucks” such as delivery vehicles.

Current California State Code:

Currently, it is a vehicle for carrying people that can be used for trial driving and public use in automatic driving.

Trucks carrying cargo are excluded.

In the future, light duty trucks under 10,000 pounds (approximately 4.5 tons) will be subject to regulations.

We proposed the revision of the rules to be targeted for trial driving and public use of automatic driving.

This applies to delivery vehicles that deliver food and daily necessities.

“San Francisco Chronicle”:

According to reports, DMV is that of the intention to want to consolidate the rule to the prospect of the 2019 year-end.

California: (see attachment)

From September 2014, we have received an application for permission to conduct an autonomous driving test on a public road.

Company with authorized permission: 62 companies

A company with unmanned permission: Only one company, Weymo (Head office: Mountain View).
