🚃Republic of the Union of Myanmar Yangon–Mandalay Railway Improvement Project Award for Procurement of Diesel Electric Multiple Unit
Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) and one of the group companies of IHI
Corporation, Niigata Transys Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “NTS”), have been chosen by Myanmar
Railways to procure 24 cars of Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (hereinafter, “DEMU”)* for the
“Yangon-Mandalay Improvement Project Phase I” (the procurement of these cars will
hereinafter be referred to as, “The Project”). The contract for The Project, which is valued at
approximately 7 billion Japanese Yen, was signed by Marubeni, NTS and Myanmar Railways
on February 9, 2018. Marubeni, as consortium leader, will be in charge of overall commercial
issues while NTS will be responsible for such aspects as design, manufacturing, testing and
training as those things pertain to DEMU
