Volley All Japan Team: AI Block · Robot Appearance – Block spikes automatically
The University of Tsukuba graduate student and Hideo Iwata and others have developed the AI block machine (robot system).
This robot system is a volleyball and blocks automatically against human spikes.
First, we detect artificial intelligence (AI) with the setter raising toss.
Next, calculate the hitting point of the attacker from the running trajectory.
Finally, three robots extend their arms.
Traditionally, the coach operated it manually.
“Percentage that can be blocked at the correct position” improved from “manual: 60%” to “automatic: 78%”.
