VW: Automatic charging robot for EV: Prototype released

Volkswagen (VW):

On December 28, a prototype robot that automatically charges an electric vehicle (BEV) parked in a three-dimensional or underground parking lot was released.

Further expansion of charging facilities is the key to the spread of EVs.

In the VW Group, the parts division under its umbrella will supervise the research and development of charging facilities and systems.

This prototype:

It embodies the idea announced in December 2019.

Charging location
Assuming a three-dimensional / underground parking lot that is often seen in urban areas of Europe.

It consists of a device charging robot and a mobile energy storage device.

The driver gives instructions for charging using a smartphone app.
