Post 5G: NEC and Fujitsu, UK and US start: O-RAN interconnection

August 19, 2021

NEC and Fujitsu:

Interoperability between devices from different vendors,
To verify the impact of base station connections
We are building an environment and developing technology.

O-RAN interoperability verification:

NEC
London, UK NEC Europe Ltd.

Fujitsu
Fujitsu Network Communications, USA

The O-RAN verification lab has decided to “start technological development to verify interoperability between base station equipment.”

Preparation for introduction of O-RAN technology:

FHA (Front Haul Analyzer) (Note 4),
P-DU (Pseudo-DU) (Note 5),
Test scenario extraction tool (Note 6),
Test parameter change tool (Note 7),
Verification result judgment tool (Note 8), etc.

Includes proprietary O-RAN technology verification.

Verification between different devices:

Introducing this technology into the verification environment of both companies’ laboratories,

Even between different devices other than NEC and Fujitsu

This makes it possible to greatly improve the efficiency of interoperability verification.

NEC and Fujitsu to promote interoperability testing between 5G base station equipment:

Tokyo, August 19, 2021

NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE 6701)
Fujitsu Limited (Fujitsu; TSE 6702)

have begun developing technologies for interoperability testing (*1) between 5G base station equipment conforming to O-RAN specifications
at NEC’s U.K.laboratories and Fujitsu’s U.S. laboratories.

This initiative
will be implemented as part of the “Post 5G Infrastructure Enhancement R&D Project” under the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan.

Both companies
are scheduled to build a verification environment using these technologies in their respective laboratories from August of this year and will begin interoperability testing.

Leveraging this verification environment

offers the potential to significantly streamline interoperability verification between base station equipment from different vendors.
