MHI: “EX ROVR” driving test-ATEX / IECEx certification compliant

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries: 2019-06-10

In cooperation with JXTG Energy, we conducted a running test of the Mizushima Refinery Plant Patrol Explosion Proof Robot “EX ROVR”.

◆ A proof of technology for commercialization, using prototype machines to clear basic functional requirements

◆ Promote identification of issues to further enhance patrol functions and enhance safety

Driving test:

In collaboration with JXTG Energy Co., Ltd., we conducted a running test using the prototype EX ROVR (Ex Rover) at the JXTG Energy Mizushima Refinery (Okayama Prefecture).

This plant patrol robot has an explosion-proof performance that suppresses “the danger of causing an explosion due to its own electric spark or heat among flammable gases”.

Test contents:

Autonomous traveling on multiple floors (including stair climbing) in a narrow plant,
Data acquisition by various onboard sensors
Continuous operation (including charging at docking station)

Our robots have been developed based on the technological achievements of nuclear power plant accident and support activities.

The plant patrol explosion-proof robot is an explosion-proof design compatible with ATEX / IECEx (Note).

(Note) ATEX / IECEx: Domestic explosion-proof guidelines and explosion-proof certificates widely used worldwide

It can be used safely in a hazardous area (flammable gas) (Zone 1).
