Hirono Power Plant: World’s Largest High Efficiency IGCC: Cuts CO2 by 15%

-Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle-

Hirono IGCC Power LLC:

From November 19, 2021, the Hirono IGCC power plant (543,000 kW) started commercial operation.

Hirono IGCC Power Plant:

Adopted Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle,

It is a state-of-the-art coal-fired power plant.

Achieved the world’s highest thermal efficiency of 48% (LHV: low calorific value standard).

We will steadily work on measures against global warming.

Features of Hirono IGCC Power Plant:

(1) World’s largest high-efficiency IGCC

Solid coal is converted to gaseous coal gas in a high-temperature, high-pressure gasification furnace.

Burn this gas,
Gas turbines and steam turbines,
Two turbines are combined to generate electricity.
The thermal efficiency of coal-fired power has been dramatically improved.

(2) Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions

Hirono IGCC will perform integrated coal gasification combined cycle power generation.

The power plant efficiently uses coal for power generation and achieves high thermal efficiency.

Compared to the latest and conventional coal-fired power generation, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 15%.

(3) Expansion of types of coal used for power generation

It is possible to convert coal into gas in a gasifier and use it for power generation.

Therefore, coal can be secured as a stable fuel at low cost.

(4) Realization of environmentally friendly power generation

When the coal is gasified,
Remove SOx with a drug and
Remove NOx with a denitration device.
