COVID-19:Toyobo、Increases PCR test reagent production by 20 times: Ships to Chinese test reagent manufacturer
Toyobo:
Toyobo Tsuruga Plant has begun to significantly increase production of reagents required for PCR tests following the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
We produce 20 times more than the end of last year and ship it to domestic testing laboratories and Chinese testing drug manufacturers.
PCR test:
Currently, the mainstream PCR test uses a dedicated device to detect the virus by mixing the reagent with mucus collected by rubbing the throat with a cotton swab.
The reagent has the effect of increasing the number of viral genes and is essential for PCR testing.
A general-purpose type that was originally developed as an effective reagent for testing various infectious diseases (dengue fever and West Nile fever).
It is also effective for the new coronavirus, and demand is growing.
Production increase system:
It is currently being produced at the Tsuruga Bio Plant, and will be replaced by switching other production lines.
Production is not disclosed.
The company claims that it has about five times more production capacity than the current situation, and plans to further increase production according to the future situation.
