Tohoku University: Deciphering the whole genome of a dangerous Venomous Hub

~ Elucidating the whole picture of genetic evolution that creates poison in the world for the first time ~

Hub (Protobothrops flavoviridis) is well known as a domestic poison.

The venom is a “cocktail” of diverse physiologically active proteins, and in order to elucidate its full scope, decoding of the entire genome was awaited.

Associate Professor Hiroki Shibata of Institute for Biological Defense Medicine, Kyushu University and others have decided on the whole genome sequence of the hub and discovered about 25,000 genes encoded by the hub genome in collaborative research.

This research result was published in the international scientific journal “Scientific Reports” at 10 am (U.K. summer time) on Thursday, July 26, 2018.
