Nippon Sheet Glass: Glass production with hydrogen, reducing CO2 by 80%: Green Gate factory in the UK

Nippon Sheet Glass:

On February 27, we announced the world’s first demonstration experiment of glass production using hydrogen energy.

Starts in November 2020 at the Greengate plant in northern England.

An alternative energy to heavy oil: using hydrogen

In the experiment, hydrogen was used instead of “natural gas and heavy oil, the main fuels for glass melting furnaces.”

Investigate the ratio measurement of convertible hydrogen.

HyNet projects:

If all natural gas could be converted to hydrogen, CO2 could be reduced by 80%.

The experiment will also be funded by the UK Government with a grant of £ 5.2 million as part of a project for the HyNet CO2 reduction / consortium in northwest England.
