Taiwan: “Formosa 1” offshore wind, Dec operation: Installed off the coast of Miaoli, northwest

On January 6, JERA announced that “offshore wind farms in Taiwan have begun commercial operation.”

JERA: A power generation company that is equally owned by TEPCO Holdings and Chubu Electric Power

JERA will accumulate know-how on operating offshore wind and rush to capture the worldwide demand for renewable energy.

“Formosa 1”: off the coast of Miaoli, northwestern Taiwan

Formosa 1, an offshore wind power generation project in Miaoli, northwestern Taiwan, began operation in December 2019.

With an output of 128,000 kilowatts, JERA invested 32.5%.

“Formosa 2”: Next Offshore Wind Project

JERA is planning another Taiwanese offshore wind project, Formosa 2.

Invested 49% in Formosa 2
The output is 376,000 kilowatts,
Operation is scheduled to start at the end of 2021.

JERA has set a goal to increase the power generation capacity of renewable energy from the current 1.1 million kilowatts to 5 million kilowatts by FY2025.
