Panama Sovereign Wealth Fund Transfers 2016 Profits to Treasury
Fondo de Ahorro de Panamá (FAP), Panama’s sovereign wealth fund, has transferred US$ 31.4 million to the country’s National Treasury as income for 2016, the result of net profits generated from its some US$ 1.26 billion in net assets for the year.
Founded in 2012 with US$ 300 million in initial funding as a stabilization fund in the event of economic recession or natural disasters, the sovereign fund has generated US$ 217 million in income since its inception, US$ 100 million of which has been transferred to the National Treasury.

Allianz, Macquarie, and Finland’s VER Acquire €3.6 Billion Finnish Power Distributor
Allianz Capital Partners, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, and the State Pension Fund of Finland (VER, also known as Valtion Eläkerahasto) have entered into an agreement to acquire Finnish power distributor Elenia from Goldman Sachs Infrastructure Partners, U.K.-based 3i Infrastructure, and Finnish pension insurance company Ilmarinen, for an undisclosed amount.
Allianz and Macquarie will each take on 45% in Elenia, with VER taking a minority stake of 10%. The deal in Elenia includes Elenia Oy, Finland’s second largest distribution system operator and Elenia Lämpö Oy, Finland’s ninth largest district heating network.
Temasek’s Vertex Ventures Backs Israeli Startup Leadspace in $21 Million Series C
Israeli predictive marketing and sales startup Leadspace Ltd. has raised US$ 21 million in Series C funding, led by growth equity firm Arrowroot Capital and existing investor Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP).
Boston-based Battery Ventures and Vertex Venture Holdings – the technology and life sciences-focused venture capital subsidiary of Singapore’s Temasek Holdings – also made appearances in the funding round as return investors, raising Leadspace’s total equity financing to date to US$ 56 million.
NZ Super to Exclude Recreational Marijuana Companies.
As more cannabis businesses enter listed equity markets, the New Zealand Superannuation Fund (NZ Super) has taken a stance on cannabis investing.
NZ Super is excluding companies involved in the recreational cannabis industry in its investable universe.
