We are developing a device that finds stimulants in the body by applying electromagnetic waves.

It will be introduced at the airport ahead of next year’s Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The Ministry of Finance’s “Central Customs Analysis Center” is developing in collaboration with companies in Osaka University and Yamagata Prefecture.

Detected by radio waves:

On a person’s abdomen or hip
By hitting “radio waves”
Whether there are any ingredients in the stimulant
It can be inspected in about 1 minute.

There is no adverse effect on the body due to the test.

Smuggling of stimulants:

Last year, there were 425 cases of stimulant smuggling caught by customs at airports and ports nationwide.

The seizure amount reached a record high of 2570 kg.

Smuggling techniques:

More than half of the cases caught, 229, were brought in by passenger planes.

Of these, 26 cases had stimulants hidden in the body, such as swallowing.
