Tokyo Game Show goes virtual

One of the world’s biggest annual video-game exhibitions

is experimenting with a new approach.

This year’s Tokyo Games Show

is offering virtual venues where people can use avatars for a more interactive experience.

The show
is now open online and features 351 exhibitors from around the world.

It’s the second year in a row that
the pandemic has forced organizers to hold the event online.

In pre-COVID times
the show would typically draw more than 200,000 visitors in person.

This year’s exhibition
is featuring virtual venues for the first time.

Gamers can use avatars to roam through the spaces, inspect the latest game-related goods, and interact with other people.

They can also purchase goods from a shopping site.

The show will run through Sunday.
