Outstanding popularity of Japanese anime:

Every day, the internet and television are buzzing with news about the remarkable achievements of Japanese animation overseas.

Box office in China:

Released in China in March, “Suzume no Toshimari” surpassed 15 billion yen in local box office revenue.

On April 20th, an animated film of “SLAM DUNK” was also released in China, quickly reaching his ¥12 billion mark at the box office.

This is not a transient phenomenon.

In the United States, the theatrical version of “Kimetsu no Yaiba” released in 2021 became the highest-grossing foreign-language film of all time.

In Brazil, from August 2021, piracy damage of Japanese animation will amount to 200 billion yen.

Japanese animation has become a movement that has surpassed enthusiasm and even created chaos around the world.

Market size of Japanese anime industry:

Until the early 2010s, it was stagnant at around 1.3 trillion yen.

Spread of video distribution:

Netflix, Amazon, Crunchyroll, etc. in the United States purchase Japanese anime.

Popular Japanese animation has spread all over the world without time lag.

US Hollywood and Korean production costs:

In contrast to American and Korean dramas, which cost hundreds of millions of yen per episode, Japanese anime can cost as little as 50 million yen per episode.

The good cost performance has been supported by distributors.

Piracy users expand the market:

As a result of the influx of pirated users into the regular market, “overseas sales of anime videos and goods” have surged.

In 2021, the overseas market size has grown to 2,742.2 billion yen.

Opening up the Indian market:

Demand is still expected to grow. India, with a population of 1.4 billion, is attracting attention.

In 2019, 50,000 signatures were collected for the theatrical release of “Weathering with You”.

Comics Wave is also working on translating it for a Hindi dub.

The Saudi crown prince is an anime fan:

Saudi Arabia is also a promising market.

Saudi Arabia has selected the entertainment industry as one of its growth areas, with the challenge of breaking away from an oil-dependent society.

Government-affiliated funds are also investing in Japanese entertainment companies such as Toei and Nintendo.

Joryo Ishii, President of REMOW:

In the global anime market, the ratio of demand for Japanese anime to non-Japanese anime is 7:3.

According to other data, the “anime market size other than Japanese anime” is said to be 14.6 trillion yen.
