Dragon Quest composer Sugiyama Koichi dies

Sugiyama Koichi, who wrote music for the video game Dragon Quest, has died.

He died of septic shock on September 30 at the age of 90.

The Tokyo native
started his career as a composer while working as a director for a commercial TV network.

Sugiyama wrote music for video games and anime programs.

He’s known for composing music for the popular Dragon Quest for more than 30 years, from the 1986 original version to the 11th.

In 2016, Sugiyama set a Guinness World Record as the oldest video game music composer.
