Daily COVID cases in China top 1,000 for first time since Feb. 2020

Chinese health authorities
confirmed 1,100 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday.

They say 703 were asymptomatic, excluding entrants from other countries.

Local media say
it’s the first time the daily tally has exceeded 1,000 since the February 2020 outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

China has maintained a zero-COVID policy throughout the pandemic.

Authorities are stepping up measures in light of confirmed cases of the more contagious Omicron variant.

China Covid Infections Top 1,000 for First Time in Two Years

China is experiencing its most significant Covid-19 outbreak since the early days of the pandemic,

igniting a flurry of new restrictions and mitigation measures as the country’s zero-tolerance approach to the virus is challenged like never before.

Domestic infections topped 1,000 for the first time since the peak of the original Wuhan outbreak on Friday,

a tally that has ballooned from just over 300 cases a day in less than a week.
