Korea Trade Association:

On October 17, announced the import and export statistics for January to September 2019.

Exports: Decreased 9.8% year on year: $ 406,140 million

Imports: Decreased 4.7% year on year: $ 377,423 million.

Trade surplus:

Although it was smaller than the same period last year, it recorded $ 28,681 million.

Korea Trade and Industry Resources Department:

The decrease in exports was influenced by external factors such as trade disputes between the US and China.

It is analyzed that the impact of Japan’s review of the export control system operation was limited.

By export item: (See Table 1): (Korean original code, MTI 3-digit base)

Among major export items, semiconductors, petroleum products, automobile parts, etc. decreased.

By export region; (See Table 2)

By region, all regions except North America decreased.

Export country:

US: Increased by 3.6% year-on-year due to an increase in automobiles, auto parts, semiconductors, petroleum products

China: 18.1% decrease in semiconductors, flat panel display sensors, petroleum products and synthetic resins

Japan: Petroleum products, fine chemical raw materials, semiconductors, automotive parts decreased, down 5.6%

By import item: (See Table 3)

By import item, imports of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, coal, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment decreased.

Imports of semiconductors, wireless communication equipment and clothing increased.

By import region: (See Table 4)

By import region, regions other than North America, Oceania and Latin America decreased.

By importing country,

US: 6.1% year-on-year increase due to increases in crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas

China: 3.7% increase mainly in semiconductors and wireless communication devices

Japan: Sales decreased by 11.5% due to a decrease in semiconductors and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Japan’s MITI: “Reviewing the operation of export control for the Republic of Korea” (July 1)

In addition, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan announced on July 1 “Reexamination of the operation of export control for Korea”.

South Korea will be excluded from the target countries of the comprehensive export license system from July 4.

In response to this, South Korea became required to apply for individual licenses for three semiconductor materials.

Three semiconductor materials: Import results (see Table 5)

Import of 3 semiconductor materials (resist, hydrogen fluoride, polyimide fluoride)

Hydrogen fluoride: 30.3% decrease

Resist: 3.3% increase

Fluorinated polyimide: 54.7% increase

On August 28, the Korea State Affairs Coordination Office announced that it will invest in R & D subsidies for the development of the materials industry for domestic production in Korean media through news materials.
