Seven-Eleven Store with Unmanned Payment System Opens in Trial

Tokyo, Dec. 17 (Jiji Press)–

Major Japanese convenience store operator Seven-Eleven Japan Co. opened an experimental outlet with an unattended payment system and utilizing facial recognition technology in Tokyo on Monday.

The facial recognition system was developed by Japanese technology giant NEC Corp. <6701>. At the outlet,

Seven-Eleven Japan will test cashless payment services, which are also intended to reduce shop clerks’ burdens.
