USITC Institutes Section 337 Investigation of Certain Laptops, Desktops, Servers, Mobile Phones, Tablets, and Components Thereof USITC

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC)

has voted to institute an investigation of certain laptops, desktops, servers, mobile phones, tablets, and components thereof.

The products at issue in the investigation are described in the Commission’s notice of investigation.

The investigation is based on a complaint filed by

Sonrai Memory Ltd. of Dublin, Ireland, on August 2, 2021.

An amended complaint was filed on August 6, 2021.

The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States

and sale of certain
laptops, desktops, servers, mobile phones, tablets, and components thereof that infringe patents asserted by the complainant.

The complainant requests that

the USITC issue a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders.

The USITC has identified the following as respondents in this investigation:

Amazon.com, Inc., of Seattle, WA;
Dell Technologies Inc. of Round Rock, TX; EMC Corporation of Round Rock, TX; Lenovo Group Ltd. of Beijing, China; Lenovo (US) Inc. of Morrisville, NC;
Motorola Mobility LLC of Chicago, IL;

Irish company snaps up patents belonging to LG

A subsidiary of LG Electronics

recently sold more than 100 US patents to an Irish-headquartered companythat has issued a wave of multimillion-dollar lawsuits against well-known technology giants.

LG Innotek

sold 95 registered patents and 28 pending patents on wireless charging to Dublin-based Scramoge Technology

ahead of its LG Electronic’s announcement this week that it is to exit its smartphone business.

LG Electronics owns 40.8 per cent of the shares of LG Innotek.
