NHTSA Imposes Record 200-M.-Dollar Penalty on Takata

Washington, Nov. 3 –The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday it has imposed a civil penalty of up to 200 million dollars, the largest in its history, on Japan’s Takata Corp. <7312> for failing to properly handle defective air bags that caused fatal ruptures.
Noting that Takata has refused to acknowledge the defect and failed to provide full information to NHTSA, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said, “The result of that delay and denial has harmed scores of consumers and caused the largest, most complex safety recall in history.”(2015/11/04-12:37)
