Controversy Brewing over Safety of LG Batteries
Bloomberg called LG Energy Solution’s battery safety into question
with respect to Hyundai Motor’s plan
to build a joint battery plant with LG Energy Solution in Indonesia.It noted that only a few researchers and investors
have asked basic questions about LG’s battery technology and product quality and reasons why Hyundai Motor has chosen LG as its partner.
LG Energy Solution
may face a worse situation, as a fire recently broke out in a Volkswagen ID. 3 and a Jaguar I-Pace, which were loaded with the batteries it supplied.
The Financial Times noted that the battery manufacturers that
U.S. automakers can choose are
LG Energy Solution,
Samsung SDI,
Panasonic,
and CATL,which all have battery fire records.
On this ground, it said the concerns about LG Energy Solution are excessive.
